TC-W3 is the additive package contained in marine 2-cycle oil.  When you go looking for the marine oil, you'll see "TC-W3" marked on the container. If the mark is missing, you don't want that oil.
 
I don't think there would be any problem running Stabil with the marine oil.

What is TC - W3?  Also, is there a problem with running 2 stroke oil and Stabil together?  And, is there a difference in 2 stroke oils re: synthetic vs. petroleum?

Larry:

I've been running the marine 2-cycle oil in all our vehicles for a rew years 
now.  In a couple of them, the improvement in engine smoothness and mileage was 
very noticeable.  My wife's Lincoln Town Car really likes the marine oil with 
the TC-W3 package. It is getting noticeably better mileage and it runs 
smoother. 

My '65 Harley ElectraGlide runs better too.  It runs and feels like it feels 
when the air outside is really cold.

The electric fuel pump in my 2002 Camaro Z-28 Police runs quieter and the 
mileage in that car was quite good on a trip to South Carolina two years ago.  I 
did not run less than 75 mph, and I calculated a bit over 26 mpg with the last 
fill up before arriving home. 

I feel that the extra bit of lubrication that the marine 2-cycle oil provides in 
the fuel system is a very positive property, and the lubrication provided to the 
valves and the ring pack improve combustion - hence the smoother running engines 
in my "fleet."

I have been buying the marine 2-cycle oil by the gallon at WalMart  (their house 
brand).  I think it runs about $13.00 or so around here.  The Penzoil brand 
referred to in the LS1 "Been Testing" article is much more expensive.  As long 
as you run a 2-cycle oil with the TC-W3 package, you are good to go.

BTW, I recommended the TC-W3 regimine to a friend of mine who put in the gas 
tank of his wife's car - and didn't tell her.  A week later his wife asked him 
if he did something to the car, because it was running much better. . .

I know this is all anecdotal evidence, but I am certainly convinced. Try it. 
You'll like it. And you can't hurt anything.

I have been using marine two-stroke oil (one ounce to every five gallons) in all 
my cars for several years now, and it works very well.

Interesting that you ask that question, as I also had the same one and
decided to call the technical support folks at Valvoline and Shell about
it. The answer I got was that if the oil isn't dark looking, don't waste
your money on changing the oil. The tech guys said that contamination
causes the brownish to black evolution of used oil colors that take place
over mileage and time. Contamination can come from carbon particles from
the combustion process and minute rust particles from excess humidity in
given climates that can materialize in both the crankcase and fuel tank. I
live in California and drive my cars seldom and the humidity is typically
low, and with being garaged all the time, I can go 5 years or so without
any effects at all. When the oil starts to get a little brown, I usually
decide to change it even though it could probably go much longer.

What is more problematic to me is the crappy ethanol laden gasoline that
turns to varnish in something like a year even under ideal conditions,
leaving my needle/seats in the float mechanism stuck open or stuck closed
when I go to try and start a car after letting it sit for a long period of
time. Thus the car will either not start or the engine will flood quickly,
and can lead to hydraulic lock up and engine damage if the cylinders fill
up with too much gasoline. And then the accelerator pumps don't work
either because that needle sticks closed too. hear that Stabil has a newly
formulated product that should greatly diminish these effects, but I have
not tried it yet. Does anyone have a solution to this problem or
experience with the new Stabil? I will need to drive my cars more often
and change the fuel more than once per year to keep things working well.
But then what do I do with the used fuel? So much for ethanol in gasoline
- a bad idea at best.
