Re: [Chrysler300] anti stall device-F&G, not J&K.

Rich is correct – no anti-stall device on the J/ramK with 3505S carbs. The curb idle is adjusted the same way as the F/G however, by turning the bypass air bleed screw on each carb which essentially changes the idle, I believe, by altering the fuel/air mixture. Fast idle is adjusted via a separate screw on each carb and each carb must be adjusted to the same fast idle speed independently. The manual chokes are helpful to start and keep the brute running, but I don’t think they help as an anti-stall. Once the engine warms up, the chokes are off anyway. In very cold weather – good luck. Best answer is live somewhere warm or simply don’t drive a J/ramK in very cold weather with a cold engine on a major highway, as it it can be tricky keeping it running until the carbs get some heat from the exhaust heat tubes. Probably true with an F/G as well. Once warmed up it should not stall.

Whilst on the subject, my brief study of the ’64 parts manual and pictures of J&K ram engines does not show the anti-stall device on the J&K ram engines. Perhaps that is the major difference between the 2903S carbs on the F & G and the 3505S carbs on the J&K (in addition to the change from automatic to manual chokes)? Perhaps Chrysler engineers solved the surging with internal mod’s in the carbs? Or maybe just the conversion to manual chokes—or maybe some slight difference in the linkage and its springs? There’s always a reason for surging and apparently the problem is not universal, even on F’s & G’s.

However, the proper K ram block in my K parts car came to me with red-painted short rams, 2903S carbs and the anti-surge device. Hopefully, the anti-surge device has its diaphragm intact and not leaking (always a good thing). No telling how that swap came to pass. Each car has and holds its secrets (TBTG).

I’m still looking for proper 3505S carbs but am going forth with the 2903S’s. They’ve been rebuilt and ready to feed that thirsty 413. I picked up the bucket seats for our K-rag from my upholstery guy today and the new black leather Goers hides look great. I purchased a rather generic foam kit for the front buckets from Legendary Interiors and the foam pieces took some work and trimming to fit. There does not appear to be a foam kit for the rear seats, so my upholstery guy will have to carve the foam for the bolsters from scratch.
