Doug,

While I’m asking for advice, I thought I’d pick your brain again:

On the ‘62 300, I just did a light refresh of the engine (new water pump, valve cover gaskets, carb rebuild) and while she starts and runs real nice now, the transmission seems to have lost neutral. It’s the pushbutton type without park, and even if I can get her into neutral by switching back and forth, after a couple revs she shifts herself into reverse.

I noticed she was doing this before I did the work, but because the engine was running so rough I figured it was a vacuum issue. While I was doing the work, I dropped the trans pan and replaced the accumulator piston rings because she had been shifting a bit rough earlier. Like I said, she was doing this before I did the work, but I just wanted to give you the full view of what I’ve done on the car.

If you have any ideas as to what would be causing this, I’d be grateful to hear them.
