That "disc" thing peaked my curiosity, I could not figure out what it was and did not remember seeing that on my F... so I went and looked in my Chrysler parts book.
Looks to me like it is only present on manual steering cars.
Your F does have power steering right? If so, there should not be any "disc" in the steering system.
On P/S cars like the F, the steering column shaft bottom end is flattened and just fits in a slot on a solid block of steel (the coupling) at the top of the steering box.
The steering shaft is held in the coupling with some sort of spring pin or cotter pin.
If there's excessive play in the steering, your steering box might need a rebuilt?? Or just more adjustments??
The steering column has to be disconnected from the box in order to remove the box.
The FSM gives a step by step procedure I think.
If I remember right, the steering wheel has to come out, there's a "C" clip below the steering wheel that has to be removed in order to slide out the column.
Also, at the bottom end of the column, there's a clamp that holds the column over the steering box, unscrew the clamp bolt to loosened the clamp in order to pull up the column. Of course, unbolt the steering column attaching clamp below the dash and unplug
the turn signal cancel switch etc...
Once the column is removed, you will be left with the removal of the steering shaft that is held to the coupling by the spring pin...then the steering box can be removed after disconnecting the steering arm...you need a puller for that.

Hello Group,
Getting my F ready for the driving season - Our 300 Club's Geneva NY Meet in May, Back to the 50s in June, Iola in July,
etc. Just had some brake and front balljoint/tierod work done. The shop also tightened up my steering a bit, but it needs added work where the steering column connects with the steering box. My mechanic's diagnosis is that the disc (part # 19-15-109 per 1960
Mopar Parts Catalog) requires replacement.
Questions -
- Recommended sourcing for a replacement disc, or a rebuild kit that includes this disc?
- Can the steering column be disconnected 'from up top' without pulling the steering box?
- Would like to avoid pulling the rams to complete this project.
Appreciate your tips and suggestions!
Thanks,
