Right...analyse carefully all steering/suspension components first, like John said. There nothing inside the steering column per say that can create a sloppiness or looseness in the steering of the car...just my 2 c...before you get involved with the removal of the column, the problem is most likely elsewhere. My error, I was looking at the manual steering diagram, instead of the one for power steering. And, yes, my F does have power steering! The part number I cited was definitely incorrect. At least I now know the column can be removed from the top end, so we'll look at that first.
