Enacted legislation which forbades old cars to congregate in groups of more
than Two? What? You must be joking, I thought this was the United States of
America. How is it that we allow laws like this to be passed. Anyone heard
of anti cruising laws? Shouldn't the police be more concerned with
apprehending criminals than car enthusiasts? I'll stop my ranting, but I
don't understand why we are trying to make everyone a law breaker.

Glad to hear the owner of Denny's was a fellow enthusiast or was he just
supporting his customers.

looking for a 64,

Its amazing how times change. We attended the Mopar Nationals at the Chelsea
proving grounds near Milan Michigan in about 1982.It was a fabulous
time.Carroll Shelby was there as was Tom Hoover and Dick Thorton of
Ramchargers fame. One of our top priorities was the Wednesday night cruise
starting out at Ford Field in Dearborn, then down Gratiot and Telegraph
eventually ending up at the Dennys lot in Novi.We were hoping to see Steve
Lisk( he had an Aspen with a pro stock style hemi at the time)and some of
the other guys we had read about with bonafide 9 sec. street cars. To our
amazement the city had enacted legislation which forbade old cars to
congregate in groups of more than two. We found this out the hard way when
we saw two old rods parked at the front of a shopping center lot. No sooner
had we joined them( I had a 67 Charger) when a cruiser car pulled up. the
officer sent us on our way with a stern warning. We ended up at Dennys which
was hopping with muscle cars of all descriptions. It was private property
and the owner did not allow the police to break up the crowd. Now it seems
they have come full circle realizing the tremendous benefit of encouraging
old cars to gather. I hope it keeps up.

Today was the day for the 2004 Gratiot Cruise which runs from Detroit thru
Eastpointe, Roseville up to Mt.Clemens Michigan was a ball even if I could
not stay long. I took the 63 Max Wedge car for a ride from Gratiot and
8-mile about 10 miles north and back. Met Garry Penn, his brother and dad.
They drove in with a neat 65 Plymouth Belvedere that was a /6, is now a HP
440 car. Good folks, good times. From 10:30 when I got there until 11:30
when I was ready to leave the crowd must have quadrupled in size. I was
chilly enough I got to try out the heater in my car for the first time since
I restored it last year. Worked great. The Gratiot cruise is growing and
my guess will get to be close to the Woodward cruise in size and importance
here. It was covered on the local news.
