Tom,

The steel bands that came on your springs should be left there. They
are designed to keep the leafs together and will let the leafs flex for 
and aft to allow the proper movement for street use. Without them there
is nothing to keep them for getting out of alignment over time.

For racing, we sometimes put special springs clamps on the first couple
of leafs to increase the stiffness of the front segment of the spring.
This
has the effect of eliminating "wrap up". Some guys do this on high horse
power street cars, but it is mostly a race track only application.

You should be good to go out of the box.

Hey Everybody,

     I have SS springs on my 65 Bel 1 and they have steel bands around 
the leaves. I read somewhere that the bands should be removed to let the

springs wrap up.I also seem to remember back in the 60's wrapping the 
springs with tape and puttung hose clamps around the springs. I'm so 
confused !! Car is street driven.
