What's this "older gentlemen" stuff???? Anyway, if you already have a 318
poly in it, keep the metal brackets that go between the rubber motor mount
biscuits and the K-member, using those, you can get repro big block engine
brackets and biscuits from Schumacher or other sources which may be listed
for '63-'65, but will work for your '62 if you use those intermediate
brackets (or fabricate some if you don't have any). You'll need a big block
trans of the appropriate configuration (pushbutton if you are keeping that
feature). Depending on the year of the engine you are putting in, you may
need to change the front water pump housing and accessories and brackets to
the earlier style if you are going to use the original style big block early
B radiator; if you are going to do a custom or modified radiator anyway,
then you can keep the later front stuff and configure the rad to that. If
you are putting in a cast crank motor, don't worry about that front balancer
with the big rim sticking out, an earlier style bottom pulley will still fit
it the recessed part if you want, and be at the correct depth. Oil pan,
need a stock early B big block one, or one of a couple of Milodon models
that will work. Some folks have been able to use other big block pans with
various or no mods, so you can experiment if you want to save bucks. Minor
changes to wiring since distributor is in front instead of rear. Headers,
the traditional big block headers sold for early B's seem to need a lot of
mods, I've tried Hedman and Cyclone myself and needed a lot of cutting
welding and hammering, but the TTI models are supposed to work real well,
and I'm sure others will post about their findings.
