If you are talking about the pot metal piece that runs along the top of the rear quarter by the back window, I believe the correct term is belt molding, and if that is what you are talking about, it does not hold the top on, at least if doesn't on my 63 Fury Vert. Mine is pot metal, pitting like crazy, but with the cost of rechroming, I'll wait until my other pieces come back from Pauls before I send them off.
