Re: Convertible Stuff

Bill on the 63 Fury convert that molding is held on by the screws that go thru the snaps. Under the molding are sheet metal strips that hold the back of the top using a different set of screws.

We may be talking about the same piece. Mine looks like it's chrome
trim ~ 1-1.5" wide w/ a bunch of snaps for the boot. Can anyone else
confirm this trim does or doesn't hold the top down on a 65 Coronet?

If you are talking about the pot metal piece that runs along the top of the rear quarter by the back window, I believe the correct term is belt molding, and if that is what you are talking about, it does not hold the top on, at least if doesn't on my 63 Fury Vert. Mine is pot metal, pitting like crazy, but with the cost of rechroming, I'll wait until my other pieces come back from Pauls before I send them off.

I'm looking into re-painting my convertible, and I'd like to pull ALL
the chrome and do it as close to right as I can. My biggest concern is
the strip that runs around the back edge of the top, that has the
buttons on it to hold the boot. If I pull that, does it also hold the
top in place? so if it does, won't I be in deep sh!t trying to get the
top back in place?
