Bill, Advancing your cam timing will generally move your power band down lower, where retarding it will generally move the power band higher. A lot of variables need to be addressed to give you a good answer, and then the only real way to know if you've done the right thing is get the car down the track and experiment. Safest thing to do is install the cam "nose up" or zero'd. That said, if you have a unique situation like a heavy car or rpm limitations, you can give yourself a leg up on the situation by changing the cam timing. Your cam grinder should be able to give you some guidance on this. Comp Cams has a tutorial with some solid info at: http://www.compcams.com/Technical/TimingTutorial/ What rpm range is the engine/chassis package designed for? Also, what are the cam specs? I recently started installing a stroker kit in my 383 and am using a solid roller set up. I used a degree wheel to find true tdc and it is 2 degrees retarded. My crank gear has the ability to be advanced or retarded 2 or 4 degrees. Which is the best setting for a roller set up. This motor will not see the street; it will get used a quarter mile at a time. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks Bill Harrison 65 Coronet 2 dr post. ---- Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
