Re: Tag Light

I have been exactly where you are at right now.....here's how I handled it, many years ago.... On the screws; mask the new paint and most of the lense with several layers of duct tape. Stick the first layer that will go directly against the car, to your shirt or pants leg to remove some of the tack and then start stacking up some thick- ness in preparation for the next step. Using a small, (1"), thin, cut off wheel in a Dremel tool, cut a slot into the heads of the fasteners and back them out with a screwdriver as normal. This trick will work on just about any stripped headded screw by the way. Once the lense is out some wet sanding of the lense under a faucet with 600 and 800 will usually break the surface of the paint. That's about all you want to do, don't try to remove all of it, just get the color moved to a translucence. Once you can kinda see through it; pour a small puddle of BRASSO into a folded microfiber towel. Put the painted side of the lense into the damp spot and rub it vigorously back and forth until clear, paint free, and nicely polished back out. This will take some time and effort but the end result makes it worthwhile. BRASSO is a fantastic plastic polish and can be used on taillights, instrument faces, etc. The can recommends it for watch crystals so there you
go. Good luck in your restoration !

Subject: Tag Light

Ok, next problem. How to get the screws out of the tag light lenses. My
paint guy painted over the tag light lenses and they are held in place
with those funky one way screws. Why would Chrysler do that? Anyway,
only one screw from each lense is excessable from the trunk and I was
able to back them out from the other side. Any suggestions on how I get
the other two out? And then what would be the best thing to use to clean
the paint off the plastic lenses without harming them?
Any help would be appreciated.
