Re: 1962 dodge wanted

Good work, Jim.  I ain't ashamed to admit when I'm proven wrong.  Thanks for clearing the issue up.

Ain't it funny that the auto 68 race hemi Darts and Barracuda's are quicker than the stick cars?  Used to be the other way around.  But the torqueflites were never too far behind the 4 speed cars and in some cases they were faster way back when.

I'm sorry to inform you that your link doesn't work, at least from my machine.  I could probably copy the line and put into my web browser and it would work then.

More than one way to skin a cat, as the old saying goes.  You did get the info for the link down anyway.  Anyone half-computer literate should be able to get it to work one way or another, as long as the address is valid and I'm sure it is.

I just found this thread on the discussion:

There is no 1963 Max Wedge 4-speed bellhousing, as the Maxie was only available with the A-833 trans in the very-early months of 1964 production until the Race Hemi debuted and the Stage III engine was discontinued. The only 4-speed option in '63 was the Borg-Warner T10, and due to its weakness it was not available behind anything larger than a 383. In '63, the only transmission choices behind the Max Wedge were the hard-to-shift Borg-Warner T-85 3-speed manual and the 727. Period. The A-833 was not available until '64.

and:

OK, going by one of Galen's old White Books, here's what I can come up with:

1962 Stage I 413 Max Wedge bellhousings were steel, but have no casting number.

1963 Stage II bellhousings were aluminum, but being for the T-85 3-speed, an A-833 won't bolt to them. They are also a different casting than the T-85 bell used behind street 426 applications' 3-speed unit, and are different than the T-10 bell used on 361/383 applications, which was iron. He erroneously marks the B-engine T-10 bell as being correct for a 413, but that combo was never available.

Hi, Jim.  '62 was the only year that the three speed manual trans was mandatory if you wanted a stick shift.  In 63 a three speed or 4 speed may have been an option along with a torqueflite, but a 4 speed was available in 63 Max Wedge cars.

I am pretty you are sure about the Borg Warner being the 4 speed for at least part of 63.  I do know that some 63's near the very end of the model year had the same engines they started putting in the 64's, but the NHRA banned them because not enough of them were produced to make them legal to run.  I have no idea how the NHRA found that out, but they did.  Those cars probably had the 833 trans or the torqueflite in them too, just like the '64's.

I did a lot of research when I was building my car, but there are people on this site that know more than I do.  Maybe someone will step up and verify the accuracy of my statements.

In 63 I'm thinking you could get a four speed , the Borg Warner , with all big blocks, except the Max wedge?
Then in 64 , when the 833 became available, the Max Wedge finally got a four speed.

Max Wedge Mopars in 1962 model were only available in 3 speed stick or a 727 torqueflite and that is 100% accurate.  In 63 and 64 you could get a 4 speed or a torqueflite.  That's 100% accurate too.

I think that you are probably talking about someones project, not positive, but do not think that a 4 speed was an option in 62, then again that might have just been the maxies
