Yes, that works, I've done it on other cars, just make sure the wrench isn't going to damage anything. You do need to let it have a little room to move, put a bit of wood on the rail to prevent damage there.

Otherwise, remove the starter (or the lower flywheel cover if a manual)  and use something that can hold the ring gear while you work on the bolt up front.
