Re: IML: Part # needed for 68 (how about a '61) window motor

Just for clarification on the 60-63 window motors. They are not EXACTLY the same, but will interchange provided you use the drive sleeve that comes with that motor. The reason being is that the motor output shafts vary slightly in length. I discovered this fact when I replaced a motor on my 60 with one from a 62 & after operating the window a couple of times, the shaft would spin free. Using the rubber piece from the 62 made the fit snug. You will notice that some of the rubber sleeves have metal ends & others nylon.

The '61 is a different story. They are the same for '60 through '63. Possibly '57, '58, & '59, too, but I don't know. You might have to have yours rebuilt. Be sure to try the vendors listed in the OIC.

Good luck!

Any suggestions on where to find these motors & gears for a '61?

I have tried to locate a power window motor thru my local NAPA store
and they can't even find a number. Does anyone have a NAPA (not
Chrysler) part # for a power window motor, driver's side, 1968 Imp?

Is this available? If not, what are my choices? Rebuild or junkyard?

Thanks,

Go into any auto parts store and ask for a power window motor for the oldest Chrysler model (not necessarily Imperial) that they have in their computer, which will probably be '69 or '70. I've done this several times, and have always ended up with the correct motor for my '67 (almost certainly the same as for your '68). You'll also need the accompanying gear kit, which includes a nylon gear and a packet of lubricant. There are two choices of gear kit, with small and large gear hubs -- I *think* the large one is what you need, but maybe you should buy one of each and return the unneeded one.

By the way, the motors are the same for the front and rear doors on
the same side, but the driver side motors are not the same as the
passenger side ones. (The gear kits are the same for all though.)
Oh, and the vent window motors are another animal altogether.

Good luck!
