Re: IML: Mirror-matic

One of my favorite "Imperial" memories is about driving my '59 Le Baron on dark Nebraska summer nights with nearby lightning storms. Every time there was a big lightning flash, the Mirror-matic would go Clack -- Clack.

My Mirror-matic did the same thing as John's.

The Mirror-matic is an "on/off" affair. It isn't like these days where the mirror gradually changes from one setting to another. The mirror actually goes "CLACK" when it changes from Day to Night and back. I guess when you are using Mirror-matic you aren't suppose to care about listening to loud "CLACKING" sounds.

The first time I had a friend in the car he nearly had a coronary when the mirror went "CLACK". It was during one of these "CLACKING" episodes that the mirror part of the Mirror-matic fell out of the mirror frame and landed on the front seat. My heart murmuring friend at point pronounced that the damn thing is falling apart and that he never wanted to ride in my Imperial ever again.

I fixed the Mirror-matic. He and I are still buddies, but when we are together, we always take his car.
