I'd like to see DC build a new Imperial. I certainly couldn't afford one, even if it only cost 50-60K, but it'd still be nice. I think the new 300C is a nice car - no, it isn't really reminiscent of an old 300, but it has a lot going for it. It's rear-drive (or AWD), it has a boatload of power (it'd smoke any of the old 300 letter cars that I love), it's really quite big for a modern sedan, and I like the styling. My wife's next car will probably be one. The 300C is derived from the previous-series E-class Mercedes (something like 40%), this is where Chrysler got a rear-drive platform. I think a new Imperial could be derived from the previous-series S-class Mercedes platform, with styling cues derived both from the current 300C and Imperials of years gone by - a split grill might be a good start. Power should come from the bored-out SRT-8 hemi (at least). I love old cars, and if I were rich I'd probably just have a pathologically huge collection. A lot of folks just want a new car, though, that everything just works on, and they can get fixed easily, etc. - why should they have to suffer with common fare, instead of a nice, modern interpretation of a 300 or Imperial? A new Imperial wouldn't be a classic now, but maybe thirty years from now it too would be appreciated by old-car folks like us. -Kle.
