Re: IML: Mirror-matic

I think the mechanics of the Mirror-matic were what was being referred to. The 2 things that generally go wrong are the "eye" & the vacuum tube. I believe it is possible to have the mirror itself resilvered.

I don't have mirror-matic, but is restoring or refurbishing the rear view mirror a difficult thing to do?

I don't recall seeing anything on the site about actually refurbishing or re-mirroring (if that is a word) the mirrors, just stuff about where to mount exterior mirrors & such.

Just smoke & mirrors in Allen, Texas.

One point to ponder before taking out that mortgage is how well will an NOS
Mirror-matic stand up? I purchased one probably 20 years ago from Radios &
Wheelcovers. I believe the going rate was $250.00 at the time & they had a
LOT of them.
While it did function correctly, the mirror fell off after a short
time. I was able to take it apart & reattach the mirror to the flipper & it
continued to work but , the silvering started flaking off the mirror from
all of the movement these do, leaving many black spots. Restoring the one
you have may be a better option.

Hello All

I have been watching eBay and a few other spots in the hope of locating an
NOS (or "close to" NOS) mirror-matic mirror for my '59 LeBaron.
I was even thinking of mortgaging the house to buy it! Nevertheless I have
seen nothing although I corresponded with Pierre Courant who outlined the
steps he went through to overhaul his. I may have to do this even though
mine has some "structural" damage. Another interesting point is that
Hemmings offers (to their customers, limited to two requests per year) to
find a vendor of "hard to find" parts. I pursued this and was given
Mitchell's! Mitchell's didn't even respond to my fax.
So does anyone have a mirror for sale or a line on one?
Alternatively does anyone have the address of a reliable company/person who
refinishes mirrors? Mine is in poor shape!
Thanks for any help offered.

Mel
