Re: IML: '59 Front End Question

hi steve, I will be buying the same parts for my 59. from parts america. because I want to keep the originals so that someday I will get them rebuilt.
as for the bushings go I cant help just yet, you'r ahead of me on that, im still rebuilding the engine and trans , when I do get to replacing the bushings I am going to remove as many as I can and take them to the parts store , and try to match them up with new ones,
If your not in much of a hurry, in 2 weeks I should beable to replace the bushings , and I will post the part numbers and as much info as I can give relating to the stearing and suspension parts.
I dont know much about the parts parts america sells as I have never delt with them before , I was a employee of auto value parts stores, and I can tell you that what I have seen comparing after market parts to OEM parts, are much the same as far as apperence goes, but somtime quality can be an issue.
my view point is grab any parts you need for you'r car while you can because you never know when the company that makes the parts may discontinue the parts.

Well since yall told me how to get the 200 pounds of grease off the
front end parts I have some more questions :-)

#1 Parts America has a center link for $180. This is a rare parts unit
they resell. Any reason not to buy it?

#2 The only wear part I see on the idler arm is the bushing. I can buy
the bushing for $40 or a new idler arm for $110. Why would I want to
buy the whole arm?

#3 New inner tie rod ends are $110 each. Can they be rebuilt somewhere
that I havent found cheaper?

#4 Where on earth can you buy the sway bar bushings? I need the ones
at the wheel, the ones where it attaches to the links and the ones for
the links.

I have the parts or know I need the following:
Upper control arm bushings
Lower control arm bushing
Strut Bushing
Inner tie rod ends
Outer tie rod ends
Center Link
Idler Arm (or bushing)

Are there any other little parts (especially rubber) that I need to
replace while I have this thing all apart?

Steve B.
