RE: IML: jammed fuel line!

I've had this one. The car only sat for 6 years. That old gas is going to be varnish anyway, so the best bet is to pull the tank and have it boiled at a radiator shop, provided it has no leaks. The quick and dirty way, which is of course what I did, is to hook your compressor up to the fuel line and blow some air back into the tank. I used a trigger on the compressor stuffed into rubber line up near the pump. Take the cap off the tank so the air has somewhere to go. On mine you could hear the whoosh and then the bubbling fuel as the air came through. I would add a filter and be ready to change them regularly because the tank is probably rusty and it's probably a clogged sock filter causing the problem.

Hi all,

My 74 Imperial seems to have the following problem:

The car has been sitting in a garage for 25 years and the 25 year old gas in the tank caused the fuel line to slip tight..

The car only takes fuel directly from a can of gas connected to the fuel pump.

It does not take gas from the gas tank, so it seems that the fuel line is jammed.

Does anyone of you know this problem, and how to solve it??

Thanks, Dirk
