Thanks for your response. Yes, it's the AutoTemp system. So apparently 
someone replaced the "black box" with an incorrect heater valve somewhere 
along the way?

Any idea where I can get this "black box" or is it possible to retrofit the 
AutoTemp system to a manual control system?
