> > It was because it was such a long trip that I did not > push the car's limits... > > Yes Mike, I know, I was kidding. When I go on long trips, I too avoid driving the car too hard. An additional reason is I feel more comfortable when I am familiar with the road. On very few occasions though when everything is just right, I will push the car quite hard. 110 mph is close the limit of what I call hard... >So, my speedometer appears to be off by 5 mph. Mike, this speedometer error, as you probably know is normal. What is unusual with these late 60's Imperial speedometers is that the positive error percentage diminishes as the speeds climbs. Your error at 60 was 8.3% while at 77 was 6.5%. My guess is that the error will continue dropping at higher speeds. The same thing happens with my 68 sedan. At 80 indicated, I am doing about 74-75, but at 120 indicated, the error is only ~3 mph or 2.5%. In the LeBaron though, even though the trend remains, the behavior is different. At 75, its dead accurate, but at 120 indicated, true speed is about 130 mph (all based on tach readings, and without considering effects of tire expansion at the higher speeds). As for your 2.5% odometer reading, that's normal. Even though odometers were a bit more accurate than speedometers, they were very rarely dead on. Keep on driving the Imperial the way it was intended. And, as you said, consider installing KYB gas shocks. As for your Mobil 1 consumption, may be you should let the level drop a bit. You may be able to reduce the oil loss if the oil level is further down the crank. Either way, if you plan to drive your Imp hard, its nice to know you have the best of the best in your crank case.
