Protection from mothes and removing the smell of mothballs

I am needing info on both sides of the moth question...
1st: My newly acquired 54 has wool carpet and headliner, so I need to protect it from mothes -- Any suggestions for something that will do the job and not smell as bad as mothballs?
2nd: My newly acquired 69 was apparently well protected with mothballs -- no evidence of mothes eating the leather, vinyl or nylon carpet :), but it sure smells of mothballs -- Any suggestions on how to cut the smell? I have tried apple slices and now have the smell of apple flavored mothballs...HELP!!!
