This is very good information from Mark and even though it is not strictly Imperial related it is appropriate. I have had experience with exploding batteries and believe me its no fun. I had just charged a battery in my car closed the hood jumped in and hit the ignition when the thing blew. Talk about a mess. Thankfully I wasn't in its direct path.
