GUNK, speaking of hoses



Jim,
I think the gunk you speak of is the off the shelf "leak fixer" that people
add to radiators.  If not used properly, it can gunk up in globs, block flow
and blow engines.  Some people swear by that additive and some would never
use it.  Typically it must be added slowly to an engine that is already
warmed up or disaster may come sooner than later.  Please dont ask me how I
learned the hard way-ok?  As for me, if I ever have a radiator leak or a
heater core leak I drop the money into a new one.  I have in the past paid
for repairs that may last 1 or 2 or 3 years, and as someone who keeps his
cars long, it just isnt worth it.  So I bet that the engine on the car
failed on accounta the gunk leak fixer hence you were able to buy the
manifolds off the car.
