Dallas; If you redo the seats in vinyl you are really persuing a false economy. By far the biggest expense in an upholstery job is the labour, not the materials. The seats in Imperials only used leather on the faces so there really isn't that much to buy for a car that has fabric panels. Regardless of what you use, vinyl or leather, the labour cost is no different from an upholsterer. All that you will save is a couple hundred bucks, maybe? Further you will just end up spending that money all over again to put it original a few years down the road. If you want to save money save it on the fabric panels. Factory pattern fabric can cost $60 per yard on up and you should easily be able to find something suitable for less then half of that in a fabric store. Most upholstery shops can also order fabric if you can find what you need, but that is still cheaper then the factory patern stuff. In addition if you decide to use factory cloth you can change the panels are a lot easier to change then the leather borders. Try Tandy Leather if you want to find some affordable hides, there are likely other places but that is where my hide came from.
