Hi IMLer's; Well, I'm discouraged today. I went to go to the store in my 61 Imperial and as soon as I turned the key the starter kept on running after the engine had started. I immediately turned the car off and tried it again and had the same thing happened. I turned the car off and all of a sudden I heard a sizzling sound from under the hood and when I unlocked the hood and it slightly popped up I saw flames under the hood. I immediately rushed and got our fire extinguisher and put the hood all the way up. The horn relay on the left fender was on fire along with the power steering hoses and hood insulation. I ripped out the hood insulation and was able to get the other fire out. Its weird, last Thursday I had driven the car and Friday morning when I went out into the garage, I smelled this burned wiring smell for about 5 minutes, but couldn't locate where it was coming from. My guess is that it was the Imperial. Would anybody have any idea what would cause this? Also, does anyone have the wiring diagram of the horn relay switch and all of the colored wires that tie into this relay? Can I buy this relay at NAPA auto parts? Luckily I didn't loose the car and my house, since it was parked in my garage. Any information would be greatly appreciated and I hope I DON'T ever have anything like this happen again....
