The "Park" position in later domestic transmissions is not meant to take the
place of a parking brake. The parking pawl does slip, and often will skip
causing the car to leave its parking place unattended. As a veteran Imperial
driver, I am highly use to curbing my front tires when parked on a hill, and
yes, I have been known to carry a chock in the trunk for emergencies. This
applies to all the cars that I drive.
I have also had the unfortunate experience of having a car "lock" in park as a
result of being bumped while it was parked. This is one thing that our older
Imperials will not do.
