80's starting problems

In my experience, if you can smell fuel, there is no doubt that some is
leaking somewhere. Check all the rubber hoses (they are probably 20 years
old, and definitely not up to handling our modern fuels, so they should be
replaced anyway.  The other place to check, on EFI cars, is the two metal
lines coming into the right rear side of the HSA - these lines are under
quite a bit of pressure when the car is running, especially the smaller of
the two lines, and they are prone to leak if anyone has monkeyed with the
fittings.
