Today was the first trouble free day I had driving my 1959 Imperial around since having my engine rebuilt. I was very impressed by the smoothness of the engine, and while sitting at stop lights I could hardly tell it was running. It was truly like having a brand new car. It was starting to run a little hot in all of the city stop and go traffic, so I went out into the secluded canyons close to my home where there are no stop lights. I did notice some pinging as I climbed up a steep grade to get over the mountain and into the canyon, but when I reached the crest and started my descent through the canyon everything was fine. Once through the canyon I used drive 2 to climb the grade out of the canyon with no pinging at all. It was one of those days that I became reconnected with my beautiful car, and finally feel like I can take it any where I want once again! While on my relatively short drive I got no less than six thumbs up and a few questions as to what year it was. I even found a mechanic willing to work on my steering wheel problem, which is much better than it was. I would even venture taking it to work at this point, but there is a very steep grade heading down to the Pacific Ocean, which would be better navigated with a fully functional steering column. All in all, it was one of those great Imperial days which I have not had the pleasure to enjoy for some time now. I just wish someone would volunteer my Imperial to the TV program Overhaulin. I watched it for the first time today, and was very impressed what they did to an old Chevy Nova in ten days.
