Re: [Chrysler300] Reno Hot August Nights

Hi Bob and the group:
I find it rather assenine that we should have to pay $100 in US
funds just to be able to participate in the different cruises! If one
thinks about this, who is keeping this $100.......is it the city of Reno
or what? It's really the cars that are the attraction to bring the
crowds and the money into Reno and I find it hard to swallow that the
people that are in fact drawing in the crowds are getting shafted into
having "to pay" just to be in these cruises. If it weren't of all those
cars coming into Reno, then there wouldn't be a "Hot August Night"!
They've got it all wrong, if anything the city of Reno should be paying
all of those participants to please come into Reno so that this event is
sucessfull. I was down to this event several years ago when they had
all the riots where they had to have the police on horseback as well as
the helicopters with their lights on at night to try and squelch all the
ruckus. What I and other people find really sucks with that whole event
of "Hot August Nights" is that the motel and hotel rates tripple or even
quadruple. This should be outlawed as it definitely isn't fair. We
don't have that situation happening out here with price gouging just
because there's going to be more demand than what is available! Just my
2 cents worth for what it's worth. Been there and done that!
    Fern

I would like to add some personal insight regarding the Reno Hot August
Nights event. I have been to the event 6 times since 1995, 5 times
being a
registered participant, 1 time not registered. Hot August Nights is a
weeklong (July 30 to August 7th) with scheduled daily events such as a
poker
run, cruises and show and shine car shows. All registered participants
are
allowed to participate in these events, and can always find a place to
park
their car for all to see, enjoy, and respect.

If you are not registered, you can of course still come to Reno and
enjoy
the cars, but if you have a collector car, you will be forced to park it
with all the other non-registered cars, and walk to the car events.
Also,
only registered cars are allowed to participate in the cruises. You
read me
right, you must be registered to be in the scheduled cruises, as the
streets
are closed to non-registered cars.

I have not been to the event for several years because I failed to
register
in time. This past year, in trying to get in to 2004, I got a letter
back
stating that if I wanted to be in 2005 (and this was before the 2004
event),
I had a short window of time (maybe 1 week) to provide payment
($100.00)to
be in the 2005 event. I was being offered this because I was turned
down
for 2004 (which I had registered for in February of 2004).

It is a great car show, not doubt-the best I've ever been to. Just know
what you are getting involved with as it is expensive for lodging and
challenging to participate if you are not registered. Here is the
