I know you guys just adjusted the throttle ( kickdown ) linkage but it still sounds like the problem. Check it again and verify that it is returning to idle position on its own and not binding up or sticking. Problems with the gear shift cable usually manifest themselves as slipping and poor shifting, due to insufficient oil pressure, from the manual valve not being properly positioned.
