Rich, I can tell you from first-hand experience that the New Jersey state troopers used '57 or '58 Chrysler Saratogas. In the summer of 1958, I was driving a '54 New Yorker Deluxe on the Jersey turnpike heading back to Philly from New York, when I was stopped for speeding. My brother was with me. Instead of issuing a citation, the trooper decided to wisk me to the nearest magistrate. My brother was left behind with my car while I got a 100 mph thrill ride to a local hamlet. The judge asked how much cash I had. After I told him, strangely enough, the fine turned out to be two dollars less than what I had with me. The whole "court" process took less than ten minutes. After that, the trooper took me back to my car in another 100 mph ride. I don't know if other speeders got the same special treatment. Maybe only flaky-looking eighteen-year-olds.
