Re: [Chrysler300] Lake Tahoe controversy

Let us compare this to medical advances that are current and are to come.

I would suggest that your brain could be compared to an automobiles VIN.

If you were to replace virtually any of your physical body parts(except of
course the brain) via either current or future technology, it would still be
you, as long as your brain(where your soul--for the believers-- and/or
consiciousness reside) then I argue that you are still you.

The same could be said of the VIN. As long as it is legitimate and is
posted to a body/chassis that in all other regards would be indentical to a
"factory" 300 then it is a 300. In particular, if the creator of this
reconstituted 300 did it in absolute secrecy, who would be the wiser and how
could this feat of alchemy be detected.

Therefore should a charlatan who is able to do this magic anonomousely be
rewarded for his efforts beyond what a more open and candid restorer did in
bringing back from the dead a VIN number from an otherwise destroyed and
lost 300? In simpler terms, how many of you have 300's parked in your
garages that may have already enjoyed this resurrection and you or no one
else is the wiser?

Some of you are probably of an age where you remember the Dusenberg. Many
times(most??) the chassis was built by the factory and the buyer then
recruited a "coach builder" to build a body. These were and are considered
"real" Dusenbergs by all who follow this Marquee. Often a later buyer or
sometimes even the original owner would have a change of heart about the
look of a Dusey they may own. They then would re-body this chassis to
another body, often by a different coach builder.

I do not know for certain, but do suspect that these are accepted as real
Duzzzie's and collectors of this Marque accept them as such.

There were very few of our favorite vehicle produced, many were destroyed or
lost over the years. To see how many angels can dance on the head of a pin
in seach of correctness serves none of us well. This is a hobby for
many/most/all of us, not a business or investment. That is why I have a
Torqueflight in my B and now wishing(after Lake Tahoe) that I had done disc
brakes last year when I replaced all my wheel cylinders. Next time I will
have disc brakes. Someday a future obsessive owner can install a Powerflite
and drum brakes. Meanwhile no one is hurt and one more accurate B will
remain for posterity.
