There is a story about the crankcase vent tube on TR3s which might be applicable. 

They have a small rectangular steel plate welded to the front, directly shading the end of the tube from air flow  when driving. The plate is positioned perpendicular to the air flow when driving.
 
My understanding is that it is a spoiler, intended to prevent a Bernoulli effect from sucking out fumes yet allowing it to vent properly.
