It is a common problem for a person doing a first time rebuild that they
will turn the bowls up side down after disassembly and not notice that the
check ball has fallen out.  So, before you you attempt to seat them, make
certain that they are there.  If not look around your work surface and
solvent tank for them.  Personally I have never had to seat one.
