Stock converter probably 1400-1800 stall speed tops. What RPM would you be running at 50mph? Probably a lot less than 4000, so yes the converter would be slipping at 50 mph building heat. Some other folks have mentioned that the Dynamic converter is less prone to this slippage at rpm less than stall and I agree with that. I also re-iterate if you are running say a 3800 converter with 3.91 gears at 50 mph it will slip a lot less than the same converter would with 2.79 or 3.23 gears because A, at 50 mph with 2.79 or 3.23 gears the engine would run slower than with 3.91 at 50 mph contributing to more converter slip due to the lower rpm and B, because the torque requirement to turn the 2.79 or 3.23 gears would be higher than with the 3.91's.

ok, THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES about converters,i KIND OF understand what youre getting at. let me ask this, : what would a stock converter have had for a stall speed, say a v8 equipped Mopar car from the late 60's, just to give me some idea of what we are talking about. So it sounds like this is a race only thing, sounds like if u had a , say 4000 stall speed converter in a street car, going down the road at 50, am I correct in saying that the converter will be slipping like crazy, the engine reving higher than with a stock converter, trans fluid temps going thru the roof and mileage out the window?
