poly freeze plug installation

Getting ready to install the dish style freeze plugs in my poly 318.   My 
question is what side of the "dish" faces out?  I've heard the correct  method 
for installation is to drive the plug in, then rap it once in the  center.  That 
just seems like it will drive the plug in deeper.  So  any explanations would 
be greatly appreciated.
