RE: IML: How to take apart '67 hood ornament?

No, don't smash it! If you have a large, strong thumb, just press it out
from front to back, it will pop out of the ring. Be careful to support the
metal outer ring, as you don't want all this force on the metal, just he
plastic insert. Back in the day when these made "cool" things for the girls
to hang around their neck, these disappeared in droves, just like the
Cartier crystals from the 80s coupes!

Probably the safest way to remove it is to lay it flat on a sturdy surface,
and press down on the front of the insert with something soft but strong.

I ordered a reproduction '67 Imperial hood ornament insert from
Emblemagic, and after almost a year of waiting (as they predicted),
it has finally arrived. I'm not overly impressed with the
workmanship, but it's still way better than my original one that
looks as if it got run through a blender.

But Emblemagic only makes the plastic insert (actually a two-part
insert). Now I have to figure out how to get the old insert out of
the hood ornament bezel and install the new one. Have any of you
ever done this before? I can't see any way to pry it out, so should
I just smash out the old insert with a hammer or something? (Trust
me, it's not worth preserving.)
