If the paint has chips and the chrome is a little less then perfect then it would rate as a number 3 grade car. From what others have told me, inspite of some price guide descriptions, a number 2 rated car is what most people would consider to be a perfect car, excellent interior, nice swirl free paint, and spotless chrome, everything mechanically in order to original spec. Just to put it in perspective a car in factory showroom condition is a number 2 car. A number 1 car is one that has been torn down to every nut, cog, and bolt, and rebuilt from the ground up by hand to perfection, number 1 cars are otherwise known as trailer queens.

Repairing the radio is a minor issue but totally worth restoring. There are a few people on this list, such as myself, who could help you with the radio when the time comes. What to pay for this car is up to you, but I generally try to follow the ALASP principle with anything old and needing possible work. The price guide is just that, but I definately would not pay any more then what they quote for a given condition. Chrome and paint jobs take time and money so factor the cost of those into your offer.

I have a chance to buy a 1938 Imperial C-19 four-door sedan. It is a good quality amateur restoration. I would rate it as between a 2 and a 3 in quallity. As far as I can tell it is in good condition mechanically, the pain is good, and the interior was done professionally and is beautiful. some of the chrome is less than perfect, but decent and there are chips in some of the painted areas. The only real problem I've detected is that the radio doesn't appear to work.

This would be my first old Chrysler and, while I am eager to have an Imperial of about this vintage, I have no idea what the correct price would be.

Can anyone give me any recent prices of similar vehicles so I can get an idea of what a fair price is?
