Re: IML: stuck float in gas tank/Dirty Tank

I've also done this, but didn't want to suggest it to someone else. You never know where someone may choose to place the gas can & have gas sloshing all over & cause an accident.

This is all true, but actually, you can start it, or at least attempt to do so by hooking a fresh supply of gasoline up to the fuel pump in the form of a gas can and a length of new rubber fuel line. I have done this many times and it has always worked. Make sure all your connections are tight and be SAFE!

If this car hasn't had gas in it in 30 years, the very next thing I would do is remove the tank & clean it. I bought a 60 that sat for many years with gas in it & the tank was more then 1/2 full of thick sludge.
I'm betting that is why the float isn't registering because it probably can't move. If you let that stuff travel forward, you'll need more then the tank cleaned. I wouldn't even start the car until you are certain of what's going on inside that tank.
