Clearance

Your local 4WD parts house should have some really nice skid plates that should help.
Make sure to have good entry speed going into steep driveways that flatten out abruptly and you should be fine.

4 inches clearance sounds wrong.   I had a buddy that had a lowered muscle car with a deep oil pan.  The state had done some asphalt grinding and had left a very sharp transition on an offramp.  As he went from graded to untouched pavement, there was a 2-3" abrupt rise, and he left the bottom of his oil pan at the edge.  The state shrugged its shoulders at him when he tried to make a claim.

4 inches is without any compression of your suspension?....  I'd try to tuck everything above the frame rails or whatever you have under there.  The engineers have to assume that someone will highside the car on something, and having junk hanging down is normally not done from the factory, I should think, so I'd continue to look for some sort of pacaging trickery to avoid having things dangling down there.

Impeiral Margarine has a crappy, low-hanging dual exhaust that some previous yo-yo put in there, and I always cringe when it manages to scritch on something, even with the relatively high stock clearance of the car.  I feel your pain.

Keep looking.

When does one know how much clearance is not enough
clearance on a car without driving it over stuff and
causing damage?

Here's my problem- my Dynasty has ~7" clearance
normally- if measuring from the road up to the k-rails
or the bottom of the OEM exhaust pipes. That 7" number
is about 8.5" if going from the road to the floor
boards or rockers.

With my new exhaust system, I have to have two cats-
which won't fit in the exhaust "groove" in the floor
boards- and my piping has to cross the k-rails.
Naturally I can't cut into the krails for this, so now
I'd have ~4" of clearance. Is this too little?
