Recast steering wheel for '65 Crown convertible

Bill,

The steering wheel I spoke of wasn't 'fixed' per se.  I only wish it could have been.  It had to be repaired, that is the cracks and chips had to be filled and sanded, so that a mold could be cast from it.  Then the entire original wheel had to be taken apart and all the plastic had to be removed.  The inner pot metal ring had to be rechromed, and the wheel had to be recast in two separate pieces.  That was a very lengthy process in and of itself.  The steering wheel was totally shot so basically I didn't have much choice but to go down this road.  I looked for over three years for an N.O.S. one or even a decent used one.  No luck!  So, here I am a year later and I am extremely pleased.  I wish it could have taken less time and cost less but the cold hard facts are this process is time consuming and expensive.  Also he had quite a few ahead of me to do and I had to wait my turn.  I am glad to have it back and look forward to re-installing it on my car.

That's great news, I'd like to get ours fixed too sometime.  But, a "YEAR"!?
